FBI Establishes 22,000 Sq Ft Cyber Range for Attack Simulation Training
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) opened a new Cyber Range in Huntsville, Alabama, last year to simulate cyberattacks and enhance digital crime training. This extensive 22,000 square-foot facility is a replica of an entire town, designed to provide realistic scenarios for agents and researchers. It includes various establishments found in a typical community, all interconnected for comprehensive training exercises.
Last year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) inaugurated a Cyber Range located in Huntsville, Alabama. This facility is purposed for the simulation of cyberattacks and serves as a training ground for modern digital crime.
The Cyber Range spans a massive 22,000 square feet, replicating an entire town. This detailed environment features a convenience store, a gas station, a hospital, and fully furnished houses. It also includes a fake power company and a small data center equipped with over 200 servers.
The facility is engineered to connect all its various buildings and services as they would be in a real-world town. This setup allows the bureau to recreate authentic scenarios for training and research purposes. The data center, for instance, is designed to be vulnerable to hacking and malware infections, providing hands-on experience.
According to The Verge, the Cyber Range aims to provide comprehensive, real-world training opportunities for FBI personnel.
