Brazil's national football team, under coach Carlo Ancelotti, played to a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their 2026 World Cup debut match held at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.
Ancelotti provided his assessment of the game, stating that the team was "anxious, gave the ball away, and lacked balance on the field" during the first half. However, he noted that the second half saw significant improvement from the squad.
Vinicius Junior scored Brazil's goal, canceling out an earlier opener from Ismael Saibari of Morocco, which set the final score at 1-1.
Despite the challenges observed, Ancelotti expressed optimism for future matches. He emphasized the need for the team to improve on ball retention and develop a more balanced approach, particularly by being more aggressive in attack. He clarified that elements executed well in prior friendlies did not translate effectively into the first half of this debut match.
Ancelotti, who made his coaching debut at the World Cup with Brazil, acknowledged that a perfect performance is unlikely in a first World Cup game. He reiterated that the team fought until the final whistle and that he is clear on the areas requiring improvement.
Brazil is scheduled to play their next game against Haiti on June 20, followed by their third and final group-stage match against Scotland on June 25.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, Ancelotti served as an assistant to Arrigo Sacchi for the Italy national team in the 1994 World Cup.
