Android 17 Stable Version Rolls Out to Google Pixel Devices
Google has officially started rolling out the stable version of Android 17 to Pixel 6 and later devices, coinciding with the June 2026 Pixel Drop. This update introduces several new features, including floating App Bubbles, built-in Screen Reactions for video creators, and enhanced biometric protections for lost phones. The Android 17 source code is also being pushed to the Android Open Source Project.
The stable release of Android 17 is now available for Google Pixel 6 devices and newer. This rollout is part of the June 2026 Pixel Drop, bringing new functionalities and improvements to compatible smartphones.
Key new features in Android 17 include floating App Bubbles, designed for improved multitasking, and built-in Screen Reactions specifically for video creators. Privacy and security enhancements are also part of the update, with biometric protections for lost phones and strict one-time location permissions for applications.
System-wide performance is addressed with strict app memory limits aimed at reducing UI stutters. Users will also find an independent volume stream for Google Assistant, allowing for separate audio control. Additionally, an upcoming foldable gaming mode is planned for devices with flexible displays.
Platform-wide, Android 17 stable incorporates changes previously introduced in Android 16 QPR releases for Pixels. This includes the more distinct Material 3 Expressive design elements and new Live Updates-related changes that were first seen in Android 16 QPR1 and subsequent updates.
According to Android Authority, the source code for Android 17 will also be made available to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) shortly after the stable release.
