Apple's Redesigned Siri AI Integrates Google Gemini Models, Faces Limited Global Rollout
Apple has introduced a rebuilt Siri AI assistant, now capable of sustained multi-turn conversations and able to draw on user data, web queries, and carry out cross-application tasks. A notable development is Apple's collaboration with Google, leveraging the Gemini family of models to power its Apple Foundation Models, which underpin the new Apple Intelligence experiences and Siri AI. The initial beta rollout, scheduled for later this year, will be English-only and excludes China due to regulatory requirements, while EU users will experience limited availability on iPhone and iPad at launch.
Apple has launched a significantly redesigned Siri AI, rebuilt to offer enhanced capabilities. The new assistant supports genuine multi-turn conversations, can access information from a user's mail, messages, and photo library, field live web queries, and execute tasks across various applications. Siri AI will also feature its own dedicated application alongside system-wide integration, with activity visible in the Dynamic Island on iPhones during requests.
A key revelation regarding the new Siri AI is Apple's partnership with Google. Apple confirmed that it collaborated with Google and the Gemini family of models to develop the next generation of its Apple Foundation Models. These models are central to Apple Intelligence experiences, the architectural framework powering the revamped Siri AI.
Regarding privacy, Apple stated that data is used solely to execute user requests. The company added that external experts are able to verify this promise at any time, underscoring its commitment to user privacy within its AI framework.
The global rollout of the new Siri AI will initially be limited. The beta, expected later this year, will only support English. China is entirely excluded from the launch due to unresolved regulatory requirements. Users in the European Union will not receive the assistant on iPhone or iPad at launch, with availability initially restricted to macOS 27 and visionOS 27. Apple has not provided a timeline for the introduction of additional languages.
According to AI News, this marks a strategic decision for Apple, relying on its search rival for the intelligence layer of its assistant, while Google simultaneously deploys Gemini across its own platforms and hardware.
