Cliftonville and Linfield Eliminated from All-Island Cup Quarter-Finals
Women's Premiership teams Cliftonville and Linfield have been knocked out of the All-Island Cup at the quarter-final stage. Cliftonville faced a 3-1 defeat against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, while Linfield suffered a 3-2 loss to Galway at Moyne Villa. These results mean Shelbourne and Galway advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
Women's Premiership clubs Cliftonville and Linfield exited the All-Island Cup at the quarter-final stage on Saturday, following defeats to Shelbourne and Galway, respectively.
At Tolka Park in Dublin, a young Cliftonville side was beaten 3-1 by Shelbourne. Shelbourne's Aoibheann Clancy opened the scoring from a penalty in the 17th minute and added her second goal in the 38th minute. Cliftonville pulled a goal back three minutes after half-time through Lucy Kelly, but Becky Watkins sealed Shelbourne's 3-1 victory with a volley in the 85th minute, securing their spot in the last four.
In Galway, Linfield was edged out 3-2 by the home side. Linfield took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Northern Ireland international Megan Bell. Galway equalized early in the second half through Isabella Beletic, and Anna McGough scored her first senior goal in the 80th minute to put Galway ahead. Fellow Northern Ireland international Cora Chambers equalized for Linfield three minutes later, but Emma Doherty scored a last-minute winner for Galway, booking their place in the semi-finals.
Shelbourne and Galway will be joined in the semi-finals by Peamount United, who defeated Shamrock Rovers, and Bohemians, who overcame Treaty United.
