Country stars Cody Johnson and Ella Langley delivered a surprise duet performance of Reba McEntire's classic song "Whoever's in New England" during Johnson's set at the Braves Country Fest in Atlanta over the weekend.
Johnson has a history with the track, having recorded an acoustic rendition in 2020. He also performed the song with Reba McEntire herself at CMA Fest in 2023. "Whoever's in New England" served as the title track from McEntire's 1986 album, reaching number one on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. The song also earned McEntire a Grammy Award for Female Country Vocal Performance and received CMA nominations for Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year, directed by Jon Small.
Both artists have recently achieved significant recognition in country music. Cody Johnson was named Entertainer of the Year and Male Artist of the Year at the recent Academy of Country Music Awards. His song "The Fall" recently topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart, marking his third number-one hit on that chart. Johnson also previously collaborated with McEntire on the song "Dear Rodeo."
Ella Langley's hit "Choosin' Texas" has achieved chart success, logging 10 weeks atop the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. The song also set a new record on the Hot Country Songs chart for the longest-leading hit by a woman without other credited recording artists since the chart became the main genre songs chart in 1958. Langley's accolades at this year's ACM Awards included Female Artist of the Year, Artist-Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year (both for "Choosin' Texas"), and Music Event of the Year ("Don't Mind If I Do" with Riley Green).
In addition to Johnson and Langley, the Braves Country Fest featured performances from artists such as Ernest, Mackenzie Carpenter, Scoot Teasley, Zach John King, and Colton Bowlin. The festival was held to benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation.
According to Billboard, a video of their onstage collaboration was also made available.
