Dave McPherson Advocates Derek McInnes for Rangers Manager Role

Former Scotland defender Dave McPherson has expressed his view that Derek McInnes would be a logical choice for rebuilding Rangers. McInnes, currently serving as the head coach for Hearts, is reportedly a strong candidate for a move to Ibrox. This potential appointment comes as Danny Rohl is expected to transition to RB Salzburg.

McPherson, who had two stints with Rangers and two with Hearts during his playing career, underscored the need for stability at Rangers. He stated that McInnes has demonstrated his capability to construct effective teams, extract the best from players, and achieve desired outcomes, not only at Hearts but also in his previous managerial roles.

He further indicated that McInnes's experience, particularly his recent work at Hearts, positions him well for the challenge at Rangers. McPherson believes it is an opportune moment for a Scottish manager with past ties to Rangers to undertake a comprehensive rebuild, starting from the ground up.

The importance of recruitment was also highlighted by McPherson, who noted that while funds might be available, selecting the right players is crucial and has been an area where Rangers have faltered previously. He cited McInnes's successful setup at Hearts, where the team's performance led them close to a first title in 66 years, finishing just two points behind the defending champions and eight points ahead of Rangers.

Regarding Hearts, McPherson acknowledged the departure of captain Lawrence Shankland to Ibrox and the potential blow of McInnes also moving. However, he expressed confidence in Hearts' robust structure, suggesting the club is well-equipped to manage the loss of key personnel, whether players or managers.
