A Dutch court artist has received damages from the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) after one of her drawings was used without permission and manipulated with artificial intelligence (AI).
Petra Urban, a court artist with 19 years of experience, discovered that a drawing she created last year had been altered. The original artwork depicted two Syrian brothers who were jailed for the murder of their sister. According to reports, the drawing was manipulated using AI to make the subjects appear more menacing.
An MP for the PVV used this reworked image in a video, which was subsequently shared on Instagram and Facebook by the party’s Noord-Brabant region. The unauthorized use and manipulation of her work prompted Urban to seek recourse.
Following the incident, the far-right party, led by Geert Wilders, paid damages to Urban for the unauthorized alteration and distribution of her artwork.
According to The Guardian Tech, the artist expressed shock upon discovering the altered use of her drawing.
