Two additional individuals from the ship remain in detention in Finland. This marks the second investigation where charges have been brought for such incidents by Finnish authorities, following an earlier case that did not result in a conviction and is now under appeal.

Finnish prosecutors have announced charges against a Russian captain and a crew member of a cargo ship. The two individuals are suspected of deliberately damaging two undersea cables. The alleged incidents occurred around the turn of the year.
Authorities indicated that two additional individuals connected to the ship remain in detention in Finland. Prosecutors have also claimed that the vessel had eight more potential targets before it was intercepted and stopped by the coast guard.
This legal action represents the second investigation by Finnish authorities to result in charges concerning damage to undersea infrastructure. A previous investigation related to similar damage did not lead to a conviction and is currently under appeal.
