Google Rolls Out Wear OS 7 to Pixel Watches, Featuring Live Updates and Battery Life Improvement
Google has commenced the rollout of Wear OS 7, its latest operating system update, for the Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4. This update introduces a new 'Live Updates' feature, enabling real-time event tracking and synchronization between Android smartwatches and phones for notifications such as sports scores or meal deliveries. The company also claims that Wear OS 7 will offer an improvement in battery life, with devices lasting up to 10 percent longer compared to Wear OS 6. Additionally, new Gemini Intelligence features are planned for integration later in the year.
Google has initiated the deployment of Wear OS 7, the newest iteration of its smartwatch operating system. The update is currently rolling out to compatible devices, specifically the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4.
A key enhancement in Wear OS 7 is the introduction of 'Live Updates.' This feature allows Android smartwatches to track live events directly from the device. These updates, which can include real-time sports scores or the status of an ongoing meal delivery, will synchronize and appear on both the Wear OS device and the user's connected phone.
In addition to the new notification capabilities, Google states that Wear OS 7 is designed to improve device longevity. The company claims that the update provides up to 10 percent more battery life when compared to its predecessor, Wear OS 6.
Looking ahead, Wear OS 7 is also slated to incorporate new Gemini Intelligence features. However, these functionalities are not part of the initial rollout and are expected to launch later in the year.
According to The Verge, the update marks a significant step in the evolution of Google's wearable technology platform.
