Hellraiser: Revival Features Resident Evil-Like Survival-Horror with Unedited Mature Content
The upcoming game "Hellraiser: Revival" was recently showcased at Summer Game Fest, revealing gameplay mechanics that draw comparisons to the Resident Evil series. Players will experience first-person survival-horror elements, including elaborate puzzles, resource management, and gun combat. Developers have confirmed the game will feature extensive unedited sexual content, contributing to its ESRB Mature rating and differentiating it within the survival-horror genre. The title is scheduled for release this year on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.

A preview of "Hellraiser: Revival" at Summer Game Fest highlighted its gameplay, which shares several core mechanics with the survival-horror genre, particularly the Resident Evil series. Players will encounter familiar elements such as doors locked from the other side, crafting components for survival aids, distinctive keys for complex doors, and puzzles requiring lateral thinking.
The game is played from a first-person perspective, incorporating gun combat where players must manage their ammo and health. User interface indicators for interacting with objects also bear a resemblance to those found in Resident Evil titles. The developers confirmed that the game’s sexual content was not edited to suit any ratings boards.
"Hellraiser: Revival" is notable for its substantial mature content, including sexual imagery displayed through posters, pictures, notes, and motion-captured cutscenes. This aspect aligns with the Hellraiser series' historical use of gratuitous sexual imagery, which debuted in 1987.
The development team expressed satisfaction in receiving a Mature rating from the ESRB, the US games ratings board, avoiding the more restrictive Adults-Only rating that typically limits retail distribution. The game's depictions of sexual content, like its violence, were retained as intended by the artists, ensuring what the developers refer to as the "unaltered, uncensored Nipple Cut." The game still awaits approval from other international ratings boards.
"Hellraiser: Revival" is slated for release later this year and will be available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, aiming to offer a comparable experience for fans of survival-horror titles.
