Renard replaces Sabri Lamouchi, who was dismissed after just one game into the 2026 World Cup following a 5-1 defeat to Sweden. Tunisia has reportedly suffered three consecutive defeats, conceding 11 goals in the process. Renard, previously a free agent, has signed a short-term contract with negotiations for a long-term deal planned post-tournament.
Hervé Renard has been appointed the new manager of the Tunisia national football team. The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) confirmed the decision, stating that Renard replaces Sabri Lamouchi, whose tenure ended after just one game into the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The change follows Tunisia's 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their World Cup opener on Sunday. The team has reportedly suffered three consecutive losses, conceding a total of 11 goals during this period.
Renard, 57, was a free agent prior to this appointment, having been sacked from his previous role as head coach of Saudi Arabia's national team months before the World Cup. He also previously managed the France Women’s national team.
He has signed a short-term deal with the FTF, covering Tunisia's participation in the current World Cup. The Tunisian FA indicated that negotiations for a “long-term collaboration” are expected to take place after the tournament concludes.
Tunisia is scheduled to play Japan on Sunday, June 21, at 6 AM (CEST) at Estadio Monterrey, Mexico. Their final group stage match will be against the Netherlands on Friday, June 26, at 1 AM (CEST) at Kansas City Stadium.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, this move represents Tunisia's effort to qualify for the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup.
