The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) reported on Tuesday that five suspected militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Mankor, a remote locality within Attock district’s Jand tehsil. Security personnel initiated the operation after receiving intelligence concerning the presence and activities of militants allegedly planning terrorist attacks in Punjab.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the suspects reportedly opened fire as the CTD team advanced, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire with law enforcement personnel. CTD officers responded, resulting in the killing of all five suspected terrorists. Following the operation, a cache of weapons, explosive material, and hand grenades was recovered from the site.
Preliminary investigations suggest the slain militants were allegedly linked to plans for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab. The operation was based on sensitive intelligence reports regarding their movements and operational planning. Authorities have since launched an extensive search operation in the border regions of Attock to locate any remaining suspects, facilitators, or accomplices who may have escaped.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the CTD for the successful operation against 'Fitna al Khawarij' in Attock. He lauded the department’s professionalism and stated that security forces, police, and the CTD are achieving significant successes in the fight against terrorism. The Prime Minister reiterated his resolve to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations from the country.
