Japan Airlines Reprimanded Over Crew Drinking Incident; Boss Faces Pay Cut
Japan's transport ministry has reprimanded Japan Airlines (JAL) following an incident in May where two cabin attendants consumed alcohol before a flight, leading to a 40-minute delay. The employees reportedly submitted false information during an internal investigation regarding their alcohol consumption. The airline's boss will face a pay cut in connection with the incident, and JAL has been directed to submit comprehensive preventive measures by July 17.

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a reprimand to Japan Airlines on Friday, demanding the carrier implement preventive measures by July 17. This action follows an incident in May involving two JAL cabin attendants.
The incident saw the two female employees consume alcohol the day before a scheduled flight. This violation of company regulations ultimately caused a delay of approximately 40 minutes for the flight.
During an internal investigation into the matter, the cabin attendants reportedly provided false information, claiming they had not consumed alcohol.
In response to these events, the Japan Airlines boss is expected to receive a pay cut, linking leadership accountability to the crew's misconduct and subsequent flight disruption. The ministry's directive emphasizes the need for JAL to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
According to South China Morning Post, the ministry determined the false reporting.
