Kierra Sheard to Receive BMI Impact Award at 2026 Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards
Artist and songwriter Kierra Sheard is slated to receive the BMI Impact Award at the 2026 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards. The ceremony will take place at BMI's Nashville office on Tuesday, July 21, and will also recognize the top gospel songwriters, producers, and music publishers for their achievements over the past year. Sheard, an influential figure in gospel music, has accumulated five No. 1 albums on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart and numerous industry awards throughout her career.
Kierra Sheard, a prominent artist and songwriter, is set to be honored with the BMI Impact Award at the 2026 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards. The event is scheduled to be held at BMI’s Nashville office on Tuesday, July 21.
During the private ceremony, BMI will acknowledge the songwriters, producers, and music publishers responsible for the past year’s 25 most-performed gospel songs in the United States. Awards will also be presented for BMI Gospel Song, Songwriter, and Publisher of the Year. The evening will be hosted by BMI CEO Mike O’Neill and Catherine Brewton, BMI vp, creative, Atlanta.
Sheard, 38, is recognized for forging her own distinct path in music while upholding her family's rich legacy. She is the daughter of Grammy-winning singer and pastor Karen Clark Sheard and Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Sr., and the granddaughter of gospel choral director Mattie Moss Clark. Sheard also notably portrayed her mother in the 2020 Lifetime film, “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel.”
Her musical career is marked by a blend of traditional gospel and contemporary R&B influences, which has helped expand the genre's reach to new audiences. Sheard has achieved significant chart success, including five No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart: “I Owe You” (2004), “This Is Me” (2006), “Free” (2011), “Graceland” (2014), and “Kierra” (2020).
Additionally, Sheard has secured five No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart and three No. 1 hits on Hot Gospel Songs. Her accolades include four Grammy nominations, seven Stellar Awards, three Dove Awards, and four BMI Awards. In 2022, she was named BMI’s Gospel Songwriter of the Year.
