Modi Holds Talks with Canada's Carney at G7, Aims for Year-End Visit and Trade Deal
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Canada's Carney during the G7 Summit. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his aim to visit Canada by the end of the year, with a goal of signing a trade deal soon. India and Canada have been actively negotiating a free trade agreement, a process that saw India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visit Canada last month with a delegation of over 100 industry representatives.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in discussions with Canada’s Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. The talks centered on strengthening bilateral relations and future economic cooperation between the two countries.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his intention to undertake a visit to Canada before the end of the current year. A primary objective highlighted for this prospective visit is the finalization and signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Canada in the near future.
The two nations have been engaged in ongoing negotiations to establish a comprehensive free trade agreement. This negotiation process recently included a visit by India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, to Canada last month. Minister Goyal was accompanied by a substantial delegation, which consisted of more than 100 representatives from various Indian industries.
According to The Hindu International, these diplomatic engagements and stated intentions underscore the ongoing efforts to bolster trade and economic ties between India and Canada.
