A delegation from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday. The discussions focused on the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 and various development projects intended for Sindh.
According to MQM-P leader Aminul Haque, the party raised the matter of a "special development package" for urban areas within Sindh. Specifically, the MQM-P requested a Rs20 billion allocation for projects in Karachi and an additional Rs5 billion for Hyderabad to be included in the forthcoming budget.
Prime Minister Sharif reportedly assured the delegation that "sufficient" allocations had been made in the budget for both Karachi and Hyderabad. He also pledged the release of necessary funds for the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme, also known as the K-IV project.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister indicated that the government is taking comprehensive measures to ensure the K-IV project's completion by December 2026. The MQM-P delegation also brought up the issue of the M-9 Motorway, which connects Karachi and Hyderabad. The Prime Minister stated that the M-9 should be regarded as an expressway or highway rather than a motorway. MQM-P urged the premier to ensure Sindh receives a dedicated motorway connecting Karachi and Hyderabad.
