Portland Leather Goods Adopts AI for Social Media Engagement
Portland Leather Goods has integrated Nectar Social's AI-assisted platform to enhance its social media management. The move aims to improve response times for its five-person social media team, which previously handled approximately 70,000 monthly messages, comments, and mentions across various platforms. The collaboration, which began in July 2025, has reportedly reduced customer response times from up to 48 hours to just one hour.
Portland Leather Goods, an 11-year-old manufacturer specializing in leather products such as handbags, wallets, and passport covers, has implemented Nectar Social, an AI-assisted platform, to manage its extensive social media engagement.
Prior to this partnership, the company's five-person social media team faced challenges with a significant influx of direct messages, comments, mentions, and tags across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. MacCoy Merkley, Chief Marketing Officer at Portland Leather Goods, stated that the team received around 70,000 monthly social media communications. Response times typically ranged from nine to 48 hours, with conversations often fragmented across multiple software tools.
The Oregon-based company sought a centralized, AI-enabled solution to consolidate these interactions. The decision to collaborate with Nectar Social was also driven by a company-wide initiative to integrate more AI into business processes. Nectar Social, a Silicon Valley startup that secured $10.6 million in venture capital funding in June 2025, was chosen for its ability to operate across a wide array of social platforms and communication methods, including direct messages, comments, and responses to Instagram Reels and TikTok Shop content.
The partnership commenced in July 2025. Since then, Portland Leather Goods' social media managers have gained access to a centralized command center to oversee their multi-platform presence. The platform's automated drafting feature has enabled the team to keep pace with the constant flow of messages without requiring additional staff. This integration has reportedly reduced social media response times to one hour.
Nectar Social, co-founded by siblings Misbah Uraizee (CEO) and Farah Uraizee (CTO), provides a system that keeps human oversight in the loop rather than relying on full automation. Portland Leather Goods had previously used AI for other tasks, such as employing Google's Gemini for meeting notes and assisting the marketing department in creating visual and copywriting assets.
According to Business Insider, Portland Leather Goods has amassed nearly one million followers across its social media platforms.
