Sabrina Carpenter Special, 'Heated Rivalry,' and CBS Programs Earn TCA Award Nominations
The Television Critics Association (TCA) has announced its nominations for the 2026 TCA Awards, recognizing achievements in television. Sabrina Carpenter's "The Muppet Show 50th anniversary program" received a nomination for best achievement in variety, talk, or sketch. "Heated Rivalry," "Industry," and "Widow's Bay" lead with five nominations each, while CBS programs "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "60 Minutes" also secured nods. Winners for the 42nd annual event will be revealed this summer.
The Television Critics Association (TCA) has announced the nominations for its 2026 TCA Awards, highlighting a range of television programming. Among the nominees is "The Muppet Show 50th anniversary program," featuring special guest star Sabrina Carpenter. The special, which aired on ABC and Disney+ on February 4, is competing for best achievement in variety, talk, or sketch. Carpenter served as an executive producer and guest star, performing two Billboard Hot 100 hits. Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph also made guest appearances, with Rogen also an executive producer.
"Heated Rivalry," "Industry," and "Widow's Bay" emerged as leading contenders, each securing five nominations. "Heated Rivalry," a gay hockey drama, is nominated for Program of the Year, with its stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams also recognized for individual achievement in drama. "Hacks," "The Pitt," and "Pluribus" each received four nominations.
Two CBS programs were also nominated: "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" for Program of the Year and "60 Minutes" for best achievement in news and information. "The Late Show," which Stephen Colbert took over in 2015, recently concluded a 33-year run on May 21. "60 Minutes" is experiencing a turbulent period in its 58-year history, marked by recent personnel changes including the firings of Cecilia Vega, Sharyn Alfonsi, and Scott Pelley.
Other notable nominations include documentaries about actor Martin Short ("Marty, Life Is Short") and director Martin Scorsese ("Mr. Scorsese") for best achievement in news and information. In individual achievement in comedy, "Hacks" stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are competing against each other. This year marks the first time the TCA has honored achievements in animation and for international series, bringing the total number of categories to 14.
The TCA comprises over 220 professional television journalists from the United States and Canada. The winners of the 42nd annual TCA Awards are slated to be announced this summer across the organization's social media accounts.
