Delhi High Court Issues Notices to 'Kala Hiran' Makers Following Salman Khan's Personality Rights Plea
The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the makers of the film 'Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy' after superstar Salman Khan filed a plea to halt its release. Khan's legal team argued that promotional materials for the film feature a character resembling him, including a distinct bracelet, which allegedly violates his personality rights and a previous court order. The court has scheduled a further hearing on the matter for June 19, addressing Khan's concerns about the unauthorized use of his likeness.

The Delhi High Court recently issued notices to the producers and director of the film 'Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy'. This action followed a petition filed by actor Salman Khan, who is seeking to prevent the film's release.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed that notices be served to producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, and casting director Akshay Pandey, among other relevant parties. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for June 19.
Representing Salman Khan, advocate Nizam Pasha informed the court that a promotional poster released on May 29 displayed a character with a strong resemblance to Khan. Pasha highlighted that the character in the poster also wore a bracelet similar to one widely associated with the actor. Khan's counsel contended that the film's content breaches a Delhi High Court order from December 11, 2025, which was intended to protect the actor's personality rights.
During the proceedings, Pasha reiterated that the project allegedly violates a prior judicial order safeguarding Khan's identity and related attributes. The court was also informed that while the filmmakers have not officially announced a release date, the film's trailer was launched on Friday, despite earlier indications of a June 20 unveiling.
Pasha referenced legal issues connected to the blackbuck poaching case, noting that these matters are still pending adjudication. He stated that four FIRs were registered in connection with the case, with Khan having been acquitted in three. A Special Leave Petition (SLP) remains pending in the fourth matter without any operative order. The counsel argued that the filmmakers are attempting to commercially benefit from Khan’s identity and requested an injunction to restrain the film's release.
Khan's legal team clarified that the producers had not declared an official release date for the film. In his plea, Khan asserted that the film's promotional materials contain clear references to him, maintaining that the unauthorized use of his likeness, image, and identifiable characteristics constitutes a violation of his personality rights and legal protections.
