At least seven individuals have died and 33 others were injured due to rain-related incidents across Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in a single day. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that heavy rainfall and strong winds led to roof and wall collapses in districts such as Bannu, Shangla, and Mansehra. Casualties include children, men, and women. Authorities are coordinating relief efforts and have issued advisories for residents amid continuing inclement weather.
At least seven people have died and 33 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province within a day. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed on Sunday that the casualties occurred on Saturday as heavy rainfall continued to affect parts of the region.
The incidents, primarily roof and wall collapses, were attributed to strong winds and heavy downpours in several districts, including Bannu, Shangla, and Mansehra. Among the deceased were two children, four men, and one woman. The injured included seven men, twelve women, and fourteen children.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had previously forecast dust and windstorms, along with rain and thunderstorms, across the upper parts of the country from June 11 to 13.
In response to the situation, PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations are closely coordinating relief activities and have been directed to expedite their efforts. The Director General of PDMA urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to sensitive tourist spots, and to adhere to government advisories. The PDMA's Emergency Operation Centre remains fully functional, and affected individuals can contact their helpline at 1700 for further information.
This follows previous rain-related incidents in KP during May, which resulted in two fatalities and eleven injuries.
