Swsh, a fan engagement platform, has announced the close of a $4 million seed funding round. The startup, founded by CEO Alexandra Debow, aims to convert fan-generated photos and videos from live events into structured marketing data for artists and brands. Game Changers Ventures led the investment round, with contributions from Stellation Capital, SignalFire, and MaC Venture Capital. Angel investors include Scooter Braun, Guy Oseary, Austin Rief of Morning Brew, and Hans Tung of GGV.
Initially launched in 2022 as a photo-sharing app for college campuses, Swsh found its users organically applied the platform to sports and artist events. This led to a strategic pivot, focusing on providing value not only to fans but also to the businesses and artists seeking to connect with their audiences.
The platform now offers a consumer-facing front end for fans while providing a back-end data solution for clients such as Sony, Warner, UMG, and numerous artists. Swsh utilizes AI to parse fan-captured media, identifying elements like sponsor logos, merchandise worn by attendees, and demographic patterns based on the time of night. This process helps brands and artists gain insights into their live event audiences, a sector where structured data is often limited.
Regarding data privacy, Swsh implements an explicit, plain-English consent screen for every upload. This ensures users agree to rights ownership and commercial use before content is posted. Additionally, each organizational partner has access to a content review workflow, allowing uploads to be moderated before becoming live on the platform.
The fan engagement platform market, valued at $5.9 billion, is projected to grow to $25.4 billion by 2034. Swsh aims to capture a share of this expanding market by offering a unique approach to fan data collection and analysis.
According to Fortune, Alexandra Debow, a 24-year-old Thiel Fellow, conceptualized Swsh to address a significant blind spot in the industry.
