The Vampire Lestat Season 3 Features Unreleased 'Best Song' for Future Storylines
Showrunner Rolin Jones revealed that the "best song" written for "The Vampire Lestat" television series is not included in Season 3, despite the season being characterized as the "concert season." This unreleased track is being reserved for the continuation of the story. The third season, which features actor Sam Reid as the lead singer of the fictional band The Vampire Lestat, presents significant production challenges due to its extensive musical numbers and concert scenes.
The third season of AMC's "Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire," now titled "The Vampire Lestat," has been dubbed the "concert season," with all seven episodes featuring at least one new song. Actor Sam Reid portrays Lestat de Lioncourt as the lead singer of the 2025 band The Vampire Lestat, formerly known Satan’s Night Out, a contemporized reimagining of Anne Rice's original book.
Showrunner Rolin Jones detailed the complexities of integrating these musical elements into the series. Production challenges included tight budgets and schedules, requiring creative solutions to stage numerous concert scenes. Jones noted that such scenes are time-consuming to film, often necessitating clever staging or shorter song segments to accommodate other significant plot points within the same episodes.
Production for the season was divided into four blocks, with multiple episodes filmed concurrently. Jones emphasized that the concert sequences were intricate and mostly shot in chronological order, undergoing extensive rehearsal to ensure each performance contributed to the narrative rather than serving as mere background.
Series composer and songwriter Daniel Hart played a crucial role, providing original songs that often replaced other scenes and resonated with the emotional beats of the story. Jones praised Hart's work, stating he had been a "songwriting secret weapon" since Season 2. Jones also highlighted a specific song, which he considers Hart's best, that was deliberately held out of Season 3. This track is being saved for future story developments, indicating plans for the series beyond its current run.
Jones commended both Sam Reid and Daniel Hart for their "uncompromising work" throughout the season.
