US President Donald Trump will attend the G7 summit in Evian, France, starting early Monday, according to senior US administration officials. During the summit, Trump is expected to hold separate meetings with leaders from Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, France, and India.
A working session on Tuesday will include President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and other G7 leaders. Officials noted that while a direct bilateral meeting with Zelensky is not scheduled, the two leaders could potentially engage on the sidelines of the summit. This meeting occurs as Russian advances in Ukraine have reportedly slowed, with Ukraine seeking additional military funding from its allies. A senior US official, speaking anonymously, stated that Russian gains have "more or less stopped" and expressed a desire for the war to conclude swiftly.
Trump is also slated to engage with a number of European leaders, addressing ongoing discussions concerning trade, tariffs, Ukraine, and NATO. Key issues on the summit's agenda include promoting economic growth and development, strengthening supply chain resilience, managing illegal migration, and advancing artificial intelligence. Efforts to boost the supply chain for critical minerals, essential for advanced technologies, are also planned.
Ahead of his return to Washington, President Trump is scheduled to attend a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday. Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu will not be present at Trump’s bilateral meetings with Middle Eastern leaders during the G7 summit.
