UN Warns 2.4 Million Refugees Need Resettlement by 2027 Amid Shortage of Options
The United Nations forecasts that 2.4 million refugees will require resettlement by 2027, cautioning about a significant shortage of available options globally. Afghan refugees represent the largest population in need of resettlement. Other major groups include individuals from South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Rohingya refugees from Myanmar currently residing in extensive camps in Bangladesh.
The United Nations has issued a projection indicating that approximately 2.4 million refugees will be in need of resettlement by the year 2027.
The international body also highlighted a critical concern regarding an insufficient number of options available to accommodate these refugees. This situation underscores a growing humanitarian challenge globally.
Among the various refugee populations identified, Afghan refugees constitute the largest group requiring resettlement efforts. Following them are individuals displaced from South Sudan, Sudan, and Syria.
Additionally, Rohingya refugees originating from Myanmar are also among the significant populations in need of resettlement. Many of these Rohingya refugees currently reside in vast camps located in Bangladesh.
