US Judge Dismisses Elon Musk's xAI Trade Secret Lawsuit Against OpenAI
A federal judge in San Francisco has dismissed a trade secret lawsuit filed by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, against rival OpenAI. US District Judge Rita Lin ruled that xAI failed to provide sufficient evidence to support its claims. The lawsuit alleged that OpenAI had stolen trade secrets related to xAI's Grok chatbot.

A lawsuit brought by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, against OpenAI has been dismissed by a federal judge. The lawsuit accused OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, of stealing trade secrets related to chatbots.
US District Judge Rita Lin, presiding in San Francisco, California, issued the dismissal on Monday. Judge Lin determined that xAI had not demonstrated that OpenAI induced Xuechen Li, a former xAI senior engineer, to disclose confidential information pertaining to its Grok chatbot. Furthermore, xAI also failed to show that OpenAI engineers were aware Li might have disclosed such information.
Xuechen Li, identified as a Chinese national, was a former senior engineer at xAI. The judge dismissed the case with prejudice, which typically means it cannot be refiled.
