White House to Host UFC Freedom 250 Event Featuring "The Claw" Octagon
The White House South Lawn is set to host "UFC Freedom 250" on Sunday night, a mixed martial arts event streaming on Paramount+. The spectacle is timed to coincide with former President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary. A centerpiece of the event is "The Claw," a custom-built, four-sided cage standing over 90 feet high, equipped with lights, speakers, and large screens for an expected audience of over 120,000 fans at the Ellipse and 4,000 on-site. This high-profile event, estimated to cost over $60 million, marks an unprecedented staging of a UFC show at the presidential residence. Despite logistical challenges and a federal lawsuit, the seven-bout card, which includes Alex Pereira against Ciryl Gane and Ilia Topuria facing Justin Gaethje, is set to proceed.

The White House will host the "UFC Freedom 250" mixed martial arts event on its South Lawn Sunday night. The show, streaming on Paramount+, is scheduled to commemorate former President Donald Trump's 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary.
A key feature of the event is the custom-built fighting arena known as "The Claw." This four-sided structure arcs more than 90 feet (27 meters) into the air and is equipped with lights, speakers, extensive wiring, and four large screens to ensure visibility for all attendees. "The Claw" has been constructed on the traditional site of the White House Easter egg roll.
While approximately 4,000-plus people are expected inside the temporary arena, up to 120,000 fans who won free admission via lottery are anticipated to watch the event from the Ellipse, a public park located south of the White House.
Former President Trump, a long-time fan of cage fighting for over 25 years, first publicly proposed the idea of a UFC fight night at the White House during a July 2025 rally. The event is estimated to cost more than $60 million.
UFC CEO Dana White described the event as a "1 of 1 event," highlighting its unique setting. Promotional activities included fighters training in front of the Washington Monument and a news conference held at the Lincoln Memorial, which was delayed by lightning. White acknowledged potential logistical difficulties, stating, "It's going to be a pain in the ass getting in and out of there," but added, "Once you’re in, it’s going to be incredible."
The seven-bout card includes significant matchups, such as Alex Pereira of Brazil against Ciryl Gane of France for the interim UFC heavyweight title. Additionally, Spanish-Georgian lightweight champion Ilia Topuria is set to face interim champ Justin Gaethje. White confirmed that the outdoor show will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
According to Fortune, a federal lawsuit challenging the staging of Freedom 250 was rejected on Friday.
