Singer Bonnie Tyler has awoken from an induced coma after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal. While she is no longer in the coma, she remains in intensive care in a hospital in Faro and is still considered "very unwell."
Tyler was rushed to the hospital in May for the emergency procedure, after which doctors placed her in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
In a statement released via her official website, Tyler's team confirmed that her condition is gradually improving, though it is a slow process. Doctors are optimistic about her recovery, despite anticipating a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Due to her ongoing recovery, all of Tyler's planned summer tour dates have been postponed or canceled. Her team expressed hope that some autumn performances might still proceed, depending on her health, with a general aim to resume performances next year. They apologized to fans and promoters for any disappointment caused and thanked fans for their support, noting Tyler's awareness of the well-wishes.
Bonnie Tyler, known for her 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," was appointed an MBE in 2023 for her services to music.
