The New York Knicks secured their first championship in 53 years on Saturday night, prompting widespread celebrations in the city's streets. Amid the festivities following the NBA Finals victory, some fans caused damage by jumping on taxis, buses, and other vehicles. A viral video captured fans taking over a taxi driver's car, which was reportedly damaged in minutes.
Rapper French Montana became aware of the footage circulating on social media. Described as an unofficial ambassador for the Knicks and New York's rap scene, French Montana publicly offered financial assistance to the affected taxi driver. He appealed to the public, stating, "Somebody find him for me so we can help him get back on his feet."
The official X account for the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) responded to French Montana's offer. The NYTWA confirmed that the driver is a member of their union and expressed willingness to facilitate a connection between the rapper and the driver.
The Knicks clinched the title by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game Five of the NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson was named NBA Finals MVP after contributing 45 points in the decisive game. Further celebrations, including an official championship parade, are scheduled for Thursday morning down the Canyon of Heroes in New York City.
Numerous New York-bred artists, including Cardi B, Fat Joe, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Lopez, also celebrated the Knicks' championship on social media. A longtime fan, French Montana had previously collaborated with Max B and Remy Ma on the "Ever Since U Left Me (Knicks Edition)" remix, which served as a soundtrack for NBA Finals broadcasts on ABC earlier in June.
