Meta Launches America’s Workforce Academy for Skilled Trades Training
Meta has introduced America’s Workforce Academy (AWA), a new national initiative designed to equip individuals with skills for long-term careers in skilled trades. The program aims to address the significant demand for professionals in fields such as fiber installation, welding, plumbing, and electrical work across the United States. AWA builds on the success of Meta's prior 'Level-Up' fiber installation training program, which saw high application rates. The academy partners with organizations including the National Urban League, the Associated Builders and Contractors, and CBRE, along with various community groups. It offers participants an opportunity to learn while being paid, without incurring college debt, leading to fast certification and guaranteed employment.
Meta has announced the launch of America’s Workforce Academy (AWA), a nationwide program created to accelerate participants into stable, long-term careers within skilled trades. This initiative is designed to address the substantial demand for skilled trade workers across the United States, including fiber technicians, welders, plumbers, and electricians.
AWA is developed in partnership with several key organizations, including the National Urban League, the Associated Builders and Contractors, and CBRE. Community partners across the country also support the program, such as the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, STRIVE, Boone County Economic Development Corporation (IN), Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce (LA), Workforce Solutions Borderplex (TX), and Ohio Chamber of Commerce (OH).
The program expands upon the previous success of Meta's Level-Up initiative, a fiber installation training program that received 35,000 applications within its first seven days, indicating a strong public interest in such opportunities.
Dina Powell McCormick, Meta President and Vice-Chairman, stated that the AI revolution presents historic opportunities for skilled workers to build American strength. Rachel Peterson, Vice President of Data Centers at Meta, emphasized that the AI infrastructure under construction requires a substantial workforce, which AWA aims to build with long-term vision.
Mike Rowe, CEO of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, highlighted that America’s Workforce Academy allows workers to be paid while learning, offers zero cost to them, no college debt, and a fast certification followed by a guaranteed job. Marc H. Morial, National Urban League President and CEO, noted that the initiative provides pathways to stable careers, particularly for communities historically excluded from opportunities, by removing cost barriers and guaranteeing employment.
Michael Bellaman, President and CEO of ABC, underscored the program's role as a transformative endeavor that creates opportunities and addresses the construction industry's ongoing workforce shortage. Bob Sulentic, CBRE Chair and CEO, confirmed CBRE's role as a key partner in managing the academy, including candidate intake, qualification, and hands-on training.
