Milly Alcock's Supergirl Cape Features Material From Christopher Reeve's Original Superman Suit
Actress Milly Alcock has revealed that her Supergirl cape incorporates material from Christopher Reeve's original Superman suit, used in the 1978 film. During an interview, Alcock confirmed that approximately 16 meters of the vintage fabric were found and utilized for her costume in the upcoming DCU movie. This detail serves as a poignant tribute to Reeve's iconic portrayal of Superman, linking the new cinematic universe with a significant piece of comic book movie history.

Actress Milly Alcock, who is set to portray Kara Zor-El in the upcoming DCU film *Supergirl*, has disclosed a notable detail about her character's costume. Alcock revealed that portions of her Supergirl cape were crafted using material from Christopher Reeve's original Superman suit, worn in the 1978 Richard Donner-directed film.
Alcock shared this information during an interview with the Raiders of the Lost Podcast. When asked about her favorite costume details, she stated, "My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape." She further clarified that "they found there was like 16 meters of that material," which is now integrated into her cape.
Christopher Reeve's portrayal of Superman, spanning the four-part series from the 1970s and 1980s, is widely regarded as a seminal incarnation of the character on the big screen. Reeve, who passed away in 2004 at 52, is credited with laying significant groundwork for subsequent actors who have taken on the role, including Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, and David Corenswet.
The inclusion of the vintage fabric in Alcock's Supergirl cape is one of several ways the new DCU aims to commemorate the legacy of the 1978 Superman film. For example, the upcoming 2025 *Superman* movie features a score inspired by John Williams' original main theme and includes a cameo appearance by Reeve's son, Will Reeve, as a reporter.
According to IGN, Supergirl will carry some of Reeve's bright reds to modern moviegoers when it premieres in a few weeks.
