Nintendo Releases System Update 22.5.0 for Switch and Switch 2
Nintendo has deployed system software update Version 22.5.0 for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, effective June 15, 2026. The update introduces new language options for the Nintendo Switch 2's accessibility features. For the original Nintendo Switch, the update brings a redesigned eShop interface, theme color synchronization, enhanced security with a user-verification PIN for eShop access and payment, and improved video playback controls within the eShop and News section.

For the Nintendo Switch 2, the update primarily focuses on accessibility. It adds Dutch and Russian as language options for the “Text to Speech” functionality. Additionally, these two languages are now available for the “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” feature within the accessibility settings. The update also includes general system stability improvements aimed at enhancing the user's experience.
The original Nintendo Switch receives several new features and design changes. The Nintendo eShop layout has been redesigned, and its color will now reflect the user's selected theme color if set to “Basic Dark” in System Settings. Security has been improved with the addition of a User-Verification PIN, which can be used to confirm access to the Nintendo eShop and when using saved payment methods.
Furthermore, Nintendo Switch users can now rewind or advance 10 seconds in full-screen videos using the ZL and ZR Buttons when watching content in the News section or the Nintendo eShop. General system stability improvements have also been implemented to enhance the overall user experience on the console.
