Punjab Cabinet Approves Rs5.34 Trillion Budget for FY2026-27
The Punjab cabinet formally approved a Rs5.34 trillion provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. Chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the 35th cabinet meeting on Tuesday gave its consent to the budget document. The Chief Minister emphasized that the budget, described as "people-friendly," was prepared without imposing any new taxes, aiming to provide maximum relief to citizens and minimize financial burdens amidst economic challenges. It focuses on public welfare, development, and prosperity, with efforts to deliver relief through the province's own resources.
The Punjab cabinet has formally approved a Rs5.34 trillion provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. The approval came after the 35th meeting of the provincial cabinet on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Chief Minister Sharif stated that the government made every effort to provide maximum relief to citizens and reduce their financial burden, despite existing economic challenges and global conditions. She highlighted that the budget for FY2026-27 was prepared without imposing any new taxes and is centered on public welfare, development, and prosperity.
Describing the budget as one of hope, the Chief Minister indicated its aim to deliver relief to citizens using the province's own resources. She also acknowledged that the province allocates a significant share to the federation but reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding public interests.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Sharif directed the Punjab Revenue Authority to implement effective measures to enhance revenue generation and strengthen the province's financial capacity. She expressed confidence in the government's performance and hoped the budget would meet the aspirations of the people.
Chief Minister Sharif also lauded the collective efforts of the cabinet members and officials involved in preparing the budget, specifically mentioning Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and Finance Secretary Mujahid Sherdil.
According to Dawn Pakistan, these individuals were recognized for their contributions to what the Chief Minister termed a "people-friendly" budget.
