Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport rated Juventus striker Jonathan David 5/10, criticizing his performance after he missed a key opportunity. In contrast, Serie A players Ismael Koné and Sead Kolasinac were among the best performers, receiving higher ratings from the publication.
Canada, one of the host nations for the 2026 World Cup, played to a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening match on Friday.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport provided player ratings and analysis following the game. Juventus striker Jonathan David, who started the match for Canada but was substituted around the hour mark, received a 5/10 rating. The newspaper noted a missed chance by David in the 16th minute, stating his shot from inside the box was too weak and easily saved by Bosnia's keeper, Nikola Vasilj.
Conversely, other Serie A players garnered praise for their performances. Canadian midfielder Ismael Koné, who plays for Sassuolo, was rated 6.5/10 by Gazzetta, which reportedly called him the "Midfield Prime Minister."
For Bosnia, Atalanta defender Sead Kolasinac was identified as his team's best player on the field, also earning a 6.5/10 rating. Kolasinac's compatriot Tarik Muharemovic, a teammate of Koné at Sassuolo, was rated 5.5/10 after being involved in the duel that led to Canada's equalizing goal.
