Thune: Senate to Advance FISA Extension Separately from SAVE America Act
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) announced Monday that the Senate plans to pursue an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act's (FISA) enhanced surveillance powers. This legislative effort will proceed independently, without the inclusion of the SAVE America Act. Thune's statement directly contrasts with former President Trump's call to link the two pieces of legislation. Senator Thune has previously voiced concerns regarding the expiration of FISA's Section 702.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) indicated on Monday that the Senate intends to move forward with legislation to extend the enhanced surveillance powers under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
This extension, focusing on FISA's Section 702, will be pursued independently. Senator Thune confirmed that the Senate's effort would not include the SAVE America Act, a position that rebuffs a demand by former President Trump to link the two legislative measures.
Thune has consistently warned about the potential implications and risks associated with allowing Section 702 of FISA to expire.
According to The Hill, the Senate will attempt to pass this extension without the attachment of the SAVE America Act.
