32 Songs Achieve Dual No. 1 Status on Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs Charts
Since their inception in 1958, only 32 songs have achieved the rare distinction of topping both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts. This elite group of tracks demonstrates significant crossover appeal across mainstream and country music audiences. The 2020s have seen the highest number of these dual No. 1 hits, surpassing previous decades.
Billboard introduced the Hot Country Songs chart on October 20, 1958, initially known as Hot C&W Sides. This chart streamlined various country music surveys that had been published since 1944. Two months prior, on August 4, 1958, the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart began, establishing a new standard for music industry research.
The first song to lead both charts was Johnny Horton’s “The Battle of New Orleans.” It reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart on May 18, 1959, and then ascended to the top of the Hot 100 two weeks later.
As of charts dated June 20, 2026, a total of 32 songs have crowned both the Hot Country Songs and Hot 100 charts, reflecting premier crossover dominance. The 2020s decade has seen the most such No. 1s with 12, surpassing the nine achieved in the 1970s.
Morgan Wallen holds the record for the most shared Hot Country Songs and Hot 100 No. 1s with four. Taylor Swift follows with three, including her recent track, “I Knew It, I Knew You.” Other artists who have earned two such double-ups include Glen Campbell, John Denver, Dolly Parton, and Kenny Rogers.
According to Billboard, these widely welcomed hits showcase a unique blend of mainstream and country music success.
