ANBERNIC has officially released the V1.28 system update for its RG557 gaming handheld, addressing user experience challenges common with Android-based devices.
The update introduces a streamlined software ecosystem, which was previously exclusive to newer models like the RG477M. This overhaul brings a more unified and intuitive interface to the RG557.
Central to the V1.28 update are the new RG Home launcher and the RG Control Center overlay. The update also includes a dedicated physical button map designed to launch a custom, dual-dial application and game frontend.
The update aims to resolve issues related to fragmented user experiences, where users often had to manage stock Android launchers or configure third-party frontends extensively. The V1.28 firmware seeks to provide a more cohesive experience directly out of the box.
This firmware update is now being rolled out globally. Users can access the update through over-the-air (OTA) delivery or via manual installation methods.
According to Android Authority, ANBERNIC is committed to improving the software experience for its older gaming handheld devices.
