Android 17 Begins Rollout to Pixel Phones and Watches
Google has started rolling out Android 17 to Pixel phones and Pixel Watches, marking a significant update for its devices. This release coincides with a Pixel Drop and introduces a new version of Wear OS, also based on Android 17. Users of Pixel phones can expect to receive their Over-The-Air (OTA) updates in the coming weeks, providing access to a small set of new features and foundational improvements, although monumental changes are not anticipated.

Android 17 has officially begun its rollout to Google Pixel phones and Pixel Watches. This release follows a testing period that commenced early this year, with the final beta version becoming available just a couple of weeks prior to the official launch.
The update includes a new version of Wear OS, which is based on Android 17, for Pixel Watches. For Pixel phones, the build incorporates several features distinct from the base Android 17, as Google no longer uses an unmodified version of the operating system on its devices.
One notable addition is the expanded multitasking Bubbles system. This feature allows users to long-press any app icon to open it as a floating window. When minimized, these bubbles remain visible on top of other applications. For users of foldable phones, the bubbles can dock into a dedicated "bubble bar," enhancing multitasking capabilities.
Currently, Google's Pixel phones are the exclusive platform for experiencing Android 17. While other device manufacturers may eventually integrate versions of some of these features into their updates, the initial rollout is specific to Pixel devices.
According to Ars Technica, this update lays the groundwork for future developments and introduces a small set of new functionalities.
