British armed forces intercepted the sanctioned Russian shadow fleet oil tanker Smyrtos in the English Channel on Sunday. This operation marked the first time British forces led an effort to disrupt oil revenue believed to fund Russia's war in Ukraine. Royal Marine Commandos and National Crime Agency (NCA) officials boarded the Cameroon-flagged vessel, supported by Chinook helicopters, other aircraft, a frigate, and a minehunter.
