California Introduces New Electric Vehicle Rebates
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation to introduce new electric vehicle (EV) rebates for residents of the state. The new law provides a $3,500 rebate for buyers of new EVs and a separate $1,750 rebate for used EVs. Both of these new rebates are subject to a price cap.

California has implemented new rebate programs designed to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) by state residents. Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed legislation establishing these financial incentives for buyers.
Under the new law, individuals purchasing a new electric vehicle are eligible for a $3,500 rebate. In addition to this, a separate rebate of $1,750 has been created specifically for those buying used EVs. Both the rebate for new EVs and the rebate for used EVs are subject to specific price caps, which are detailed within the provisions of the new legislation.
These state-level initiatives come at a time when electric vehicle adoption across the broader United States has reportedly encountered obstacles. These challenges include the earlier discontinuation of a federal IRS clean vehicle tax credit. This previous federal program offered potential buyers up to $7,500, contingent on the vehicle's price and the buyer's income. The cessation of the federal credit was reported to have contributed to a slowdown in EV sales and led some automotive manufacturers to adjust their product offerings. California's new rebates aim to stimulate the EV market and promote cleaner transportation within the state.
