Chandra X-ray Spacecraft Resolves NGC 6540's Mysterious Flare into Three Sources
Astronomers have utilized NASA's Chandra X-ray spacecraft to conduct extensive X-ray observations of NGC 6540, a galactic globular cluster. This observational campaign aimed to determine the nature of a peculiar X-ray flare previously emitted by the cluster approximately two decades ago. The new data resolved this mysterious X-ray flare into three distinct sources.

NASA's Chandra X-ray spacecraft has performed deep X-ray observations of NGC 6540, identified as a galactic globular cluster.
The primary focus of this new observational effort was to understand the peculiar X-ray flare that originated from the cluster about two decades ago. Through these deep observations, the Chandra spacecraft successfully resolved the previously mysterious X-ray flare into three separate sources.
The findings from this observational campaign were described on June 1 on the preprint server arXiv.
According to Phys.org, these observations provide new insights into the nature of such cosmic events.
