The final content update for Destiny 2, Monument of Triumph, marks the end of the game's initial saga, providing resolutions for numerous central characters.
Zavala, the longtime commander of the Guardian Vanguard, has chosen to retire after enduring centuries of battles and personal crises. In a cutscene, he reflects on the toll these events have taken but expresses pride in the Guardian's victories.
Ikora receives a promotion, becoming the de facto leader of the Guardians and head of the Vanguard. Eris Morn, known as the Hive god of Vengeance, commits to eradicating the Hive pantheon by tracking down Xivu Arath and Savathun.
Drifter, a character who initially emphasized detachment, has now settled down, choosing to fight alongside his new friends and family after finding a home and developing a relationship with Eris Morn. Crow, formerly Uldren Sov, assumes the position of Hunter Vanguard after The Final Shape, continuing in his role despite still seeking full acceptance from the Hunters.
Mara Sov, who has long sought her lost lover Sjur Eido, learns from VI of the Nine that Sjur is alive but lost in time. Mara rejects VI's offer to reunite if she stops aiding the Last City, opting to continue her own search.
Lodi, a time-stranded Emissary of the Nine, claims to be 30 trillion years old and focuses on reuniting with his lost family, aiming to transform them into beings capable of surviving the end of time. Osiris, having lost his Ghost and connection to the Light, is preparing for his inevitable death by recording messages for his partner, Saint-14.
Eido, the Eliksni scribe, is reconnecting with her father, Mithrax. Clovis Bray, an AI copy, selfishly attempts to mend family relationships while seeking an exo-frame for his mind and a seat on the Vanguard to lead humanity.
Loose ends include Savathun, who remains active with her Lucent Brood and has been approached by Dredgen Bael to eliminate Maya Sundaresh. Xivu Arath, the diminished Hive god of war, is working to reclaim her power, potentially by combining her shattered empire with the remnants of Torobatl, leading to conflict with Dredgen Bael's forces.
Failsafe, the mercurial AI, is no longer stranded and is free to explore the cosmos after the Ghost Community Theater funded her installation in a new spaceship. Maya Sundaresh, after relinquishing control of the Echo of Command, gives up and fades away, exhausted by grief over her soulmate, Chioma.
Efrideet, the youngest Iron Lord, lives on a peaceful commune, while Saladin, the oldest surviving Iron Lord, prepares for new conflicts amidst system distortions. Dredgen Bael, positioned as a major player, is abandoned by VI, leading to his physical deterioration and a desperate attempt to reconnect with his mother.
Finally, the Traveler has returned to orbit above the Last City, stabilizing Earth after the death of III. An entity heavily implied to be the Winnower teases a future showdown between light and darkness at the end of time.
