Gmail AI Summaries Now Globally Available for All Users
Google's AI-powered email summaries, driven by Gemini, are now live for all Gmail users worldwide across Android, iOS, and web platforms. This feature, which automatically generates overviews of email threads, was initially limited to paying Google AI users before expanding to free users in the United States. Users have the option to disable the feature, though doing so will also restrict Gemini's access to other Google Workspace applications such as Drive and Tasks.

Gmail's AI-powered summaries are now available globally for all users. The feature leverages Google's Gemini AI to provide overviews of email threads and can be accessed on Android, iOS, and the web.
This functionality was initially offered exclusively to paying Google AI subscribers. It was subsequently extended to free Gmail users in the United States. Over the past few years, Google has been integrating Gemini features into various Workspace applications, with initial efforts focused on writing assistance. AI Overviews were introduced to Gmail for paid users last year and later expanded to Google Drive folders.
Users who prefer not to use the AI summaries can disable the feature. However, turning off the summaries will also revoke Gemini's access to other Workspace applications, including Google Drive and Tasks. While the feature is rolling out worldwide, some users may initially observe AI Overviews active only for a limited number of email threads.
According to Android Authority, the global rollout is making Gemini-powered email summaries slowly available to free Gmail users.
