At I/O 2026, Google initially announced "Search agents," outlining plans for users to create AI agents for a variety of tasks. The company stated at the time that it would commence this rollout with information agents during the summer. The current launch for AI Ultra subscribers marks the initial phase of this strategy, with a wider release anticipated to follow in the summer.
