Hong Kong to Mandate Health Checks for Commercial Drivers Aged 65 and Above
Hong Kong plans to introduce mandatory health checks for commercial vehicle drivers aged 65 or above by the middle of next year. This initiative aims to enhance road safety by tightening both the age threshold and the frequency of assessments. Additionally, authorities will establish a register of doctors to assist drivers in choosing an appropriate practitioner for these required check-ups.

Hong Kong authorities are set to implement mandatory health checks for commercial vehicle drivers aged 65 and above, with the new regulations expected to be in force by mid-2025.
Undersecretary for Transport and Logistics Liu Chun-san announced the plans to the Legislative Council on Wednesday. The move is designed to improve road safety by lowering the age threshold for mandatory assessments and increasing their frequency.
As part of the initiative, a new register of doctors will be established. This register will provide guidance to drivers, helping them select a suitable medical practitioner for their health examinations.
According to the South China Morning Post, the government intends to lower the age requirement for these health evaluations.
