Lin-Manuel Miranda-Penned Song "Along the Way" Released for Live-Action 'Moana' Film

A new original song, "Along the Way," written by Lin-Manuel Miranda for Disney's upcoming live-action 'Moana' film, was released on Monday, June 15.

The track is performed by Catherine Laga‘aia, who portrays Moana in the new film, alongside Dwayne Johnson, who returns as Maui. Auli‘i Cravalho, the voice actress for Moana in the original two animated films, also features on the song.

Miranda expressed his enjoyment in returning to the 'Moana' world, noting the blend of voices from Auliʻi and Catherine, and the experience of writing for Dwayne's character, Maui. He conveyed gratitude for creating something special for this new version of the story.

"Along the Way" is part of the 'Moana Original Soundtrack,' which is slated for release on June 26. This soundtrack will also feature new versions of original songs by Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina. The live-action film is scheduled for release on July 10.

A deluxe version of the soundtrack will be available on July 8, incorporating the original score composed by Mark Mancina and instrumental tracks. Additionally, an album inspired by the film, titled 'Moana: Voices Across the Ocean,' will be digitally released on July 31. This album will include 15 tracks performed by Pacific artists representing seven islands and cultures, such as Fifth Harmony's Dinah Jane, Stan Walker, Iam Tongi, Paula Fuga, Maoli, and Common Kings.

Miranda received an Oscar nomination in 2017 for Best Original Song for "How Far I'll Go," a signature song from the first animated film, which will be performed by Laga‘aia in the new movie.
