Liverpool has reportedly completed the signing of Spain international Victor Munoz, activating his €40 million release clause. The move sees the Reds beat out Newcastle United, who were previously in advanced talks to acquire the forward. Munoz has agreed to personal terms and completed his medical, poised to become the first signing under Liverpool's new manager, Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool has reportedly secured the transfer of Spanish forward Victor Munoz, activating his €40 million release clause. This acquisition sees Liverpool bypass Newcastle United, who were previously considered front-runners and had engaged in advanced discussions to sign the international player.
According to reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano, personal terms have been agreed upon with Munoz, and he has also successfully completed his medical examination. He is anticipated to be the inaugural signing under Liverpool’s newly appointed manager, Andoni Iraola.
During his tenure with Osasuna last season, the 22-year-old Munoz demonstrated strong performance, tallying seven goals and providing five assists across 36 matches in all competitions. He was noted as one of La Liga's top dribblers, completing an average of 2.2 dribbles per game, ranking sixth in the division. His playing style is characterized by direct attacks on goal, and he ranked second among Osasuna players for both total shots and shots on target per game.
Munoz is described as offering a counter-attacking threat, frequently cutting inside, and possessing a knack for crossing. His versatility allows him to operate across the frontline or in midfield, a factor that may have contributed to Liverpool's successful pursuit.
He debuted for the senior Spain national team in March, scoring in a 3-0 friendly victory against Serbia, and is part of their squad for the ongoing 2026 World Cup campaign. Munoz's arrival is not expected to affect Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, as the club aims to sign two forwards this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether his signing could impact the future of Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
