Actor Muzammil Ibrahim has issued a clarification regarding excerpts from an old interview concerning his past relationship with actress Deepika Padukone. The clips recently resurfaced on social media, leading to widespread debate and criticism.
The interview, reportedly recorded in 2025 with Siddharth Kanan, featured Ibrahim discussing his past with Padukone. He claimed that Padukone had proposed to him during the early years of their careers. Ibrahim also stated he turned her down, remarking that at the time, she "was just a model" while he considered himself a "budding star."
These comments quickly went viral, drawing criticism from many social media users, particularly in light of Padukone's current stature as a prominent Bollywood star.
Amid the backlash, Muzammil Ibrahim took to Instagram to clarify that the viral clips did not reflect the complete conversation. He stated, “The interview being discussed and wrongly headlined as ‘fresh claims’ was recorded over a year ago. What is currently being circulated are a few moments from a much longer conversation.” He further explained that "The hesitation, the context, and the respect with which certain topics were discussed are often lost in the editing process and when excerpts are viewed in isolation.”
Ibrahim reiterated his intent to speak about people from his past with respect, stating, “I have always tried to speak about people from my past with respect, and that remains unchanged.” He added that his focus remains on his work and life, and he hopes the conversation will reflect this.
During the same interview, Ibrahim also revealed that he and Deepika Padukone maintained intermittent contact after their relationship ended. According to him, they would occasionally congratulate each other on professional milestones before eventually losing touch following Padukone's marriage to actor Ranveer Singh in November 2018.
