Nag Ashwin Addresses Alia Bhatt, Sai Pallavi Casting Rumors for Kalki 2898 AD Sequel

Director Nag Ashwin has addressed the ongoing casting speculation for the "Kalki 2898 AD" sequel, following the departure of actress Deepika Padukone from the franchise.

Production house Vyjayanthi Movies had previously announced it would not continue its association with Padukone for the sequel. The company cited an "unable to find a partnership" and a "lack of alignment" for a film of "Kalki's scale."

This announcement fueled speculation regarding the future of Sumathi, Padukone's character, who is considered crucial to the Kalki universe. Reports on social media and in trade circles have since linked actresses Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi to the project, with theories suggesting either new roles or a recasting for Sumathi.

During a conversation with Great Andhra, Nag Ashwin confirmed that the character of Sumathi will remain an integral part of the story in "Kalki 2." The filmmaker stated, "We need to announce who plays Sumathi character in Kalki 2. As of now everything is speculation only. Character will be there for sure which we can't remove as it's a very important character." His remarks clarify that while the role will continue, no official casting decisions have been made public.

The original "Kalki 2898 AD" featured a prominent cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. The film achieved significant box office success, establishing the groundwork for a larger cinematic universe.
