New CLI Tool Converts YouTube Guitar Lesson Videos to PDF Tabs
A new command-line interface (CLI) tool has been developed to convert YouTube guitar lesson videos into PDF guitar tabs. The developer stated that existing music transcription services for YouTube videos often fail to meet their needs, prompting the creation of this simpler alternative. The tool processes video frames using AI vision technology to identify and compile guitar tab sections into a printable document.
A new command-line interface (CLI) tool has been created to transform YouTube guitar lesson videos directly into PDF guitar tabs.
The developer noted that while services for transcribing music from YouTube videos into tabs exist, they have not consistently performed to their satisfaction. This new tool offers an alternative approach to address this perceived gap.
The process begins by downloading the YouTube video. It then samples individual frames from the video. Artificial intelligence, specifically Claude vision, is utilized to locate and identify the region containing the guitar tab within these frames. Each identified frame is subsequently cropped to focus solely on the tab region.
To ensure a clean and coherent output, the tool de-duplicates the cropped frames based on the bar number printed on each line of the score. The distinct tab lines are then stitched together vertically, culminating in a complete PDF document of the guitar tab.
The developer acknowledges that the tool has not yet undergone extensive testing across a wide variety of YouTube videos, indicating that potential issues may arise in different contexts.
